The tram runs on Saturdays in March-May then August to November. To confirm the tram is running, please call (609)652-1665.
The Forsythe Explorer enters its sixth full year of service. The tours of the Refuge’s Wildlife Drive have been very well received by both new visitors and regular guests.
The electric powered tram carries a maximum of 10 adult passengers. Each seat accommodates up to three persons (two adults and one child), and has its own door. There is no air conditioning and no heat, due to battery limitations for this 8-mile drive.
A driver and interpreter accompany the passengers. Interesting facts about the Refuge, along with discussions of the wildlife sighted, are part of the tour. The quiet operation and top speed of 15 MPH allow the Forsythe Explorer to stealthily approach the birds and other animals. Large windows provide virtually unobstructed viewing.
There is no cost for the tours. The Friends request a donation from tour participants. These donations help defray the cost of operating the Forsythe Explorer.
Regular tours are scheduled on Saturday afternoons but this is subject to change. To confirm the tram is running that week, please call (609)652-1665. They leave the Visitor Information Center parking lot at 1:00 pm. Reservations are advised as seating is limited. Special tours for small groups of 4 to 12 participants are available. These tours must be scheduled a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the tour. Call the Refuge at 609-652-1665 and ask for Forsythe Explorer reservations and information on special tours.
